Making Sense of a Flood of Information
May 4, 2005
I just ran across an interesting article on CNN.com describing the rise of “tagging” as a way to sort through and categorize information on everything from digital photos to web sites. It provided some good information and got me thinking about how I organize my own life, both virtual and physical. I’ve done a pretty good job until now, strictly managing my computer files & creating a filing scheme, implementing the GTD techniques for physical files, etc. But I always think that things can be done better, and it looks like tagging may help me to further evolve my personal organization scheme to the next level. It’s ironic, really, since I’ve been using “tags” in ShadowPlan on my Tapwave Zodiac for quite a while; I just hadn’t realized that there’s a growing community of people doing the same thing on an Internet-wide basis.
You can read the CNN article here.

This sounds great, Jen. So far it looks like a thing being done on the Internet, but I'd like to do this on my hard drive. I'd like to do it in Linux too, because that is where my biggest mess is--at home where I use Linux. Any leads on how to utilize tags in Windows or Linux?
Thanks for the great site.
