News Bits: Energi To Go and Inflight Power
June 16, 2006
This has been a powerful day indeed, with two mobile power product announcements that have me very excited indeed!
- Energizer has just announced their “Energi To Go” line of products, a series of battery chargers that are designed to work with almost any portable device from cell phones to iPod/PSP/GBA/DS thanks to interchangeable tips from iGo. The cell phone version will use two AA batteries and retail for $19.99, while the Audio and Gaming versions use 4AA batteries and will retail for $29.99 each. This is very big news indeed, because it marks the first time that a major “mainstream” consumer products company has realized what a huge market this is, and made it easier for technology enthusiasts everywhere to get the mobile power they need. Energi To Go products will be available in drugstores and other mass market outlets by September 1, with a massive advertising campaign starting over Labor Day weekend.
- In other power news, the new Inflight USB Power Unit plugs into the headphone jack found on all airline seats and draws power from that outlet to trickle charge small devices such as cell phones and iPods. The Inflight USB Power Unit is available now for $34.99, and a separate Gomadic TipExchange bundle is available for $49.99. You can get more information or place an order at the Inflight Power online store, and it should also be available in the SkyMall catalog this summer.
