Gamestop Offers New PSP Accessories

May 26, 2006

I was surfing the Gamestop site looking for information about an upcoming game mentioned in Game Informer (Lumines 2 is coming in October!) and stumbled across a couple of new Sony PSP accessories. Gamers will likely rejoice at the news of a 4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo from Sandisk; Gamestop is currently taking preorders for $239, with an expected ship date of June 1. That looks like a great deal to me, even without bargain hunting, because that’s not much more than I paid for a Sony brand 2GB MS Pro Duo when those first came out.

I also ran across an FM Modulator for the PSP offered by Pelican for $29.99. In essence it allows the Sony PSP to do what iPods have been doing for years now thanks to the iTrip and other FM transmitters: send music, gaming sound effects, and movie sound to an FM stereo for room-filling sound. The PSP FM Modulator is expected to ship by the middle of June.

FYI Those looking for gaming accessory news and scoops can do worse than exploring Gamestop’s site. Even if they don’t have box art listed for upcoming games, they often have plot summaries and screenshots, as well as release dates. There are also listings for tons of accessories you’ll likely never see in your local “big box” store like Wal-Mart, Target, and Best Buy. I’ve found they’re generally quite accurate, and have always been pleased with the service I receive from preorders. If you’re willing to wait about a week for in stock items, shipping is just $2.99 for their value service. I still often get new games on their release date because they usually have agreements with game publishers to ship early so preorder customers get their games fast without having to fight the crowds at the mall or their local gaming store. They also run some really good specials; during E3 the offer was free two-day shipping on all preorder games; right now you can get 20% off any strategy guide or gaming accessory priced at $29.99 or less when you purchase at least one game.
