Code Jedi Happenings

October 20, 2003

I sometimes wonder how my friend Jeff gets any sleep— he’s one of the most active and involved Palm OS developers I know. He’s up to even more than usual these days though. First off we have the release of Shadow 3.0, with nifty enhancements to the handheld and desktop versions. I’ve long considered Shadow to be one of my “must have” handheld applications, but he just keeps making it better. This release includes:
  • Enhancements for the Palm Tungsten T3, Sony UX50, and Garmin iQue, for fullscreen landscape and portrait modes with full support for virtual Graffiti. (Tapwave Zodiac support promised soon)
  • Language plugin support system, with the German module already included
  • Alarms— set them inside Shadow or link individual Shadow items to the handheld PIM applications
  • Fast navigation popmenu for quickly finding things in long lists PocketGoddess favorite!
  • CJListLauncher utility for quickly opening frequently-used Shadow lists
  • “Greedy” filters that match all children to speed data entry (no more tagging each item)
  • Handheld speed improvements and tweaks
  • Desktop now has a tabbed interface, enhanced toolbars, and shortcuts
  • Desktop has find and Tag Wizard
  • Preliminary Linux and Mac desktops released to the public

The update is free for registered users, as always. Be sure to try it out if you’ve never used Shadow too, and you’ll see why I love it so much. Grab it at the Code Jedi web site.

And as if that weren’t enough, Jeff is also running a coding contest. This year’s theme hasn’t been announced yet, since the contest doesn’t start until November 1, but the rules and such have already been posted on his web site. You’ve got some time to get ready, and after the contest starts, you have until the end of the year, December 31, to come up with something really cool and try to win your share of the prizes, which include cash, Code Jedi applications, and possibly other donated prizes. For more info, head on over to Jeff’s Code Jedi web site. Good luck!
