Batuca and Batuca B-Bug

January 29, 2007

Batuca, Batuca B-Bug, and clip

The Batuca is a battery case that holds 8 AA, 12 AAA batteries, 8 CR2, 8 CR123, or a mixture of battery types. The case has two different compartments, orange and green, that can be carried together as one piece or you can slide them apart at the middle to separate it into two compartments. The sides are curved to hold AA batteries firmly in place, though of course smaller batteries work too. Batuca is made of very sturdy, high quality plastic and is translucent, so you can see what’s inside. The case is secured at the top by a simple clasp; small protrusions on each side make it more difficult to open by accident. Pull up on the bottom of the tap to open the case, and push down to close—and when it’s closed, it’s closed. No worries at all about it coming open in your bag!

The Batuca B-Bug is an optional accessory that goes with your Batuca battery holder. Made of more flexible plastic, the Bug is just small enough to fit inside one half of a Batuca battery case. The top of the Bug has a fun ridged design with eyes, and you grasp the creature’s “spines” to open the top. Depending on the type of memory card you use, you can get several inside the Bug; it worked fine for me with two SD cards and a MS Pro Duo with adapter. I was also able to slip in two Nintendo DS games, so this case is extremely versatile. You can also carry the Bug separately, since the small strip that secures the top to the bottom of the case is prepunched and comes with a small keychain.

You can also get a Batuca Belt Clip if you’d like to keep your batteries and memory cards close at hand; this is especially ideal for digital photographers who take a lot of pictures. Since shooting at high resolution, in RAW mode, can really eat up the memory fast, most serious photographers have more than one memory card, and the Batuca is an excellent way to keep everything organized and change cards fast, so that you never miss an important shot. There’s also a special Batuca holder that attaches to the strap of a camera bag, though I haven’t actually used one of those. The photo above shows the Batuca inside the clip; it can easily be removed, but is held quite securely when in the clip so you don’t have to worry about the Batuca coming off and getting lost.

I’m not doing an actual scored review here, since InAnyCase is the primary sponsor of PocketGoddess.com. I will say though that I found these products to be well-made and generally useful if you need to carry batteries and spare memory cards with you. The Batuca battery holder and clip are $4.99 each, and the Batuca B-Bug is $2.99. A variety of colors is available, including the green/orange you see in the photos here, as well as green/blue, green/white, and blue/white.If you’d like to get one for yourself, just click on that ad just to the left of this article, and let ‘em know the PocketGoddess sent you.
