BoxWave Active Case for the Dell Axim X51v
April 5, 2006
The Boxwave Active Case for the Dell Axim X51v is similar to other BoxWave Active Cases, in that it is made of high impact clear plastic that showcases your device while still offering excellent protection. It is molded to fit your device perfectly, so it adds minimal bulk and feels good in the hand because it follows the same curves too. In order to get your Dell Axim X51v into the case, pull the case apart from the bottom and it will separate into two halves that are held together by the hinge at the top of the case. Slide the Dell in from the top, angling it down slightly to fit under the molded plastic “retaining clip” on each side of the case. When it’s in the right place, the Dell will be nestled comfortably in the case and won’t wiggle at all. Close the lid and your device will be perfectly protected, but still visible at all times.

Cutouts provide access to the power button, applications buttons, headphone jack, SD expansion card slot (but NOT the CF card slot), stylus silo, the lock and wireless buttons on the side, and charge/sync port on the bottom. Since the case is clear, a quick press of the power button will show you your schedule for the day; you don’t have to fumble with a zipper, snap, or Velcro. Obviously if you need to enter text or tap the screen, you will have to open the front flap, but that’s a simple affair. I’m thrilled by the fact that the front flap is one piece instead of two (like it is for the LifeDrive) because that makes it much easier to open and you also don’t have to worry about a flap that just covers the screen pressing too hard on that delicate area if it gets “pushed through” and rests directly on the screen. In this version, the flap is all one piece with a single large cutout for the application buttons, so that it comes to the bottom curve of the device and perfectly meets the bottom half.
I only have a couple of slight disappointments with this case: the plastic still tends to scratch rather easily, and there is no way to stand up the Dell in the case by folding the front flap around to the back of the device. In all other respects though this case is a clear winner indeed. It even comes with a removable belt clip for those times you want to carry it on your belt; the clip attaches to a special retaining screw that you can optionally attach to the back of the case. You can get one for $25.95 at the BoxWave online store.
