Proporta Alu-Leather Case Options for the Sony PSP

July 7, 2005

Alu-Leather Flip Cover

Alu-Leather Case Attachment

Think of this as a “case” for minimalists who want nothing more than screen protection for the Sony PSP. Its features are remarkably similar to the rest of the Alu-Leather line from Proporta, including white stitching, a sueded-like interior, and good quality leather. The flip cover attaches to the PSP with two small screws that go into the holes on either side of the USB port on top of the device. I found that with nothing to hold the cover down on the PSP, it tended to bump up a bit too much over the buttons on the front of the device, inviting small objects to get in and potentially scratch the screen. I think this case would be a bit better if the length of the small tab between the screw attachment and the flip cover were just a bit longer, or it might loosen up and stretch a bit over time.

Thankfully the case comes with a small screwdriver that makes attaching the flip cover to your PSP much easier. You can get the Alu-Leather Flip Cover for the Sony PSP for $24.95 at the Proporta web site.

Memory Stick Duo Storage

This is a more traditional case that offers protection to the front and back of the PSP, but not the sides. It attaches in the same way as the flip cover, via two small screws that connect to the small holes on either side of the mini USB port on the top of the PSP. There are a oouple of extra features worth noting with this particular case related to storage. There are two Memory Stick Pro Duo slots on the bottom of the case, underneath the UMD door of the PSP. This is great placement because there aren’t any worries about the screen getting scratched. On the front of the case, by the Proporta logo, there’s a storage compartment for a single UMD disc. This is a great idea, but it doesn’t work all that well— it isn’t quite big enough and you really have to work to push the disc in or remove it from the pocket. While it does protect the open window on the back of a UMD, I don’t think it’s terribly practical; better to spring for a separate UMD carrying case.

The Alu-Leather case for the Sony PSP is priced at $34.95 and is available now at the Proporta web site.
