Cable Stable

July 21, 2004

The mobile lifestyle is great, but it comes with its own problems— mainly cords, cables, AC adapters, batteries, cradles, and the like. What’s a girl to do when she needs to travel with a laptop, a PDA, and a cell phone? Carrying the devices themselves isn’t that hard, but the stuff that goes with them can certainly defy easy organization. You can stuff them all into your messenger bag, backpack or purse, or if you’re going farther than around town, you can stash them in your suitcase— where the various cables and cords promptly unwind and tangle around each other, or go missing just when you need them most.

Enter the Cable Stable, a portfolio case that has a place for everything. The first thing you’ll notice on the zipper side of the case is gusseted, potentially becoming larger then the spine, depending on what you pack in it. Unzip the case to open it fully flat on a table top and prepare to be organized! On the left side there are two zipper pouches made of mesh for relatively small, flat items like memory cards, GBA cartridges, etc. A hidden pocket in the bottom pouch will hold cash, credit or business cards, or a key. In the middle of those two pouches are four stretchy loops that can accomodate pens, styli, batteries, etc. The spine of the case has six more stretchy loops, and the right side of the case has yellow “bungee style cords that can stretch to fit almost anything you would like them to hold.

As you can see from the picture, the Cable Stable will certainly hold a lot of stuff. I was able to fit in my Tapwave Zodiac and its AC adapter, a Nintendo GBA SP and its AC adapter, a game cartridge, and a full size pen/stylus, with plenty of room for more. The bungee system works great, holding things in place and keeping them “contained” while also being very easy to use. This case is perfect both for globe trotters & business travelers as well as people who don’t generally travel much farther than down the hall. Since the bungee area measures nine and one half inches tall and seven and one half inches wide, it will hold a wide variety of items. Sometimes I find myself reaching for it instead of my usual briefcase when I’m heading off to a meeting. Sometimees all I need is my Zodiac, my cell phone, and my keys, and the Cable Stable does a great job of holding it all.

You can get it for $44.95 at the Proporta web site. But smart shoppers will check the PocketGoddess Discussion Forums first, as Proporta has graciously offered my readers a special discount— you can get 10% off any hardware or 20% off any software, making the Cable Stable an even more attractive deal.

PocketGoddess Rating for the Cable Stable from Proporta: 4 out of 5
