Stylus Central 2 in 1 Stylus & Pen for Palm Tungsten T
June 2, 2003
>
At first glance, the StylusCentral stylus is almost indistinguishable from the stock stylus that comes with the Palm Tungsten T—it’s the same length, the stylus tip is the same, and the only difference you might notice is that the black portion at the top is a bit longer than it is on the stock stylus. That’s where the similiarities end, however. The StylusCentral version is rather ambitious in that it packs in not only a refillable pen under the black plastic pull off top, but it also can be pulled apart so that it is five inches long. That makes it much more comfortable to use than the short stock stylus, especially for long periods of time. I wish the stylus tip were spring-loaded, and that it “popped up” like the original, but it’s easy enough to get out with a fingernail.
The pen is of course a very nice feature to have in a PDA stylus. No matter how hard we try to become “paperless” there are still those times that you need to jot down a quick note or share information with someone who doesn’t have a handheld device. It writes nicely, and different color refills are also available from StylusCentral for 99 cents each. You can access the pen by pulling the black plastic cap off of the stylus. It fits quite securely, so it will take a good tug—but that’s better than having the cap fall off somewhere.
All in all, I like this stylus— it adds more comfort in use by lenthening to five inches when out of the silo, and of course the pen is useful. The only thing I really don’t like is how it’s slightly more difficult to get out of the silo, but that’s because I’m used to the stock stylus popping right up. You’ll have to decide if the extra comfort and functionality are worth that for you. The introductory price might help though—it’s only $10.99 right now; after the intro period it will sell for the regular price of $19.99. It’s available at the Stylus Central web site.
