Sena Cases for the Clie NR70

November 26, 2002

There are a lot of reasons for that too, but I’ll start with the basics. The workmanship and the materials are simply outstanding. You can tell by the smell alone that this case is made of top grain leather. The stitching is nice and even all around, and the attention to detail certainly shows. The logo is nicely understated too, embossed on the front rather than some metal or plastic logo glued onto the front (which unfortunately is all too common). The case is a perfect fit for my NR70, and everything important is accessible— the reset button and speaker on the back, the headphone jack, jog dial, and hold button on the side. The unit is secured in the case by a yoke that covers the bottom portion of the device, holding it securely while still allowing the user to type on the keyboard. The case closes with a simple snap tab that covers the HotSync port on the bottom and attaches on the back. There are also two business card slots, two Memory Stick slots, and a slot for a removable mirror. It actually serves two purposes— aside from allowing you to check your appearance just before heading into a business meeting or a date, it also stiffens the case just a bit more, providing extra protection for your handheld’s screen— especially if you tend to leave your NR70 in tablet mode all the time, as I do.

You can get the case either with or without a belt clip. It’s removable, so you can take it off the case, but that will still leave you with a fairly large plastic “nubbin” on the back. The belt clip itself is very heavy duty and should stand up to almost anything. It will completely enclose a belt as wide as an inch and a quarter, or perhaps a bit wider than that. It is very strong, so you shouldn’t have the problem of your case detaching itself from your belt when you stand up or when you get out of your car. It’s a swivel clip too, which is especially important for NR70 owners— the device is so long that it’s necessary to be able to swivel it up 90 degrees so you can sit comfortably.

If you’re looking for a nice holiday present for a handheld enthusiast but can’t afford to spend a fortune, consider giving a Sena case. They come in a large variety of colors (with nicely coordinating interiors) and are available for almost every Sony Clie handheld, from the T series to the NR and SJ series. And at only $39.95, they’re a good deal. Each case comes in a drawstring pouch and is packaged in a red box, ready to wrap or just stick on a bow.
