Bellagio NR70 Book Model Case

September 12, 2002

One of the first things I noticed when I took the case out of the box was its simple elegance. The leather is nice and smooth, and of a good quality. The stitching is perfectly even. The small Bellagio logo on the snap closure is made of metal, not cheap plastic, and is appropriately sized. Both the back and front panels of the case are slightly padded for extra protection. When I opened the case I found the same attention to detail on the inside, with leather on the left for the two card slots and the two Memory Stick slots, and a soft fuzzy material on the right where my Clie would slip into the yoke designed for it. There is also a cutout on the bottom of the yoke that will allow you to charge/HotSync your Clie with a USB cable, but not with the cradle. When I first got the case that yoke was a very tight fit, but it has loosened up just a bit, so it’s easier to get my NR70 in and out.

The spine of the case is just a bit larger than it needs to be with only an NR70 inside; that’s a great design feature if you’ll always want to carry business/credit cards with you, as well as a couple of extra Memory Sticks. But that extra room does mean that your device’s screen is less likely to be damaged by excessive pressure if you tend to leave it in tablet mode most of the time, as I do. Of course that also means that this case is slightly more bulky than absolutely necessary, but if you want absolute slimness you probably won’t bother with a case at all, since this particular model features a clamshell design that can protect the screen when not in use.

Be advised as well that this case is not for the sort of person that will be using their headphones & the Jog dial extensively while the device is in the case, as the spine will interfere. In that case you need to get Bellagio’s Slipper-style offering instead. The front flap of that case opens up instead of to the left, leaving the sides of your Clie exposed and all of the buttons/headphone port accessible.

Want one for yourself? It’s only $34.99 at the Bellagio web site. With very nice quality at a good price, I can highly recommend this case for any NR70 owner. If you don’t have an NR70, never fear—Bellagio makes cases for a variety of handheld models.

PocketGoddess rating for the Bellagio Designs NR70 case: 4.5 out of 5
