Brando CLIE T-series HotSync + Charger Cable
June 26, 2002
These accessories aren’t just for travel either— I’ve used a similar product from Landware with my Palm m505 for quite some time now, and done away with my cradle completely. Sync cables have the advantage of taking up much less space on your desk, and they’re very easy to carry in a purse or briefcase. The Brando cable is very nice indeed— it’s a good length at 60 inches, so it reaches easily from the USB ports on the back of your computer to the top of your desk. You won’t have to worry about your Clie getting pulled off your desk by a straining, too-short cable. The connection is also very good and secure. My NR70 was easily attached to the cable and stayed attached until I pressed in the release buttons on each side of the connector. There’s a HotSync button too, which is much more convenient than having to manually start the process on your handheld device.I was well pleased with the performance of the HotSync + Charger cable from Brando. It is made of good quality materials and performs as advertised. One small thing to consider though, if you’re interested in using it as a cradle replacement: it does not fully charge my Clie NR70. The battery gets up to about 4.12 volts and stays there, though in the cradle it charges up to 4.20 volts. I don’t really fault the Brando cable for this, because my travel charging cable that plugs directly into an electrical outlet does not charge my Clie past 4.12 volts either. That’s plenty of juice to last you a few days with moderate use, but it does bear mentioning.
The price is quite reasonable at $22, and you can get it at the Brando web site.
