TealMovie

The reason I say that is that the results are simply jaw-dropping. No, the picture quality isn’t as good as a DVD on a big-screen TV, and the sound isn’t like anything that comes out of my 5-speaker beauty of a stereo. But it is pretty good, and certainly better than anything I ever expected to see on my Palm. But let me get back to the beginning here. TealMovie is an application that allows you to play movies on your Palm, with sound and color (if you have a device with a color screen). You can either make your own TealMovie files out of *.avi files, or you can make some selections from TealPoint Software’s online library of free movies. My personal favorite and highest recommendation is Stick, a laugh-out-loud parody of the whole martial arts movie genre, complete with sound effects.
Simply use the Palm install tool to install TealMovie.prc to your device, along with whatever movie files you desire. Thankfully TealMovie is VFS compatible, so you can load a big Memory Stick or SD card up with all sorts of big movie files. From the main TealMovie screen you can play, beam, delete, rename, or get more information on each file. FOr example, Stick is 1286K in size and runs for one minute and fifteen seconds. If you’ve used some other TealPoint applications, this main screen will look very familiar. The buttons and icons are very intuitive, and there’s no need at all to read the manual— something that the PocketGoddess always appreciates.
TealMovie doesn’t get five stars (or an Oscar) for technical excellence, but it definitely earns my highest rating for showing that the Palm OS platform can do some pretty amazing things. Once the new devices come out with OS 5 and speedy ARM processors, TealMovie will become a must-have application for anyone who wants to get the most out of their device. Just as SplashPhoto and other picture viewing applications are becoming increasingly popular, so will TealMovie when the hardware catches up to the software. For now, TealMovie is a grand experiment that suceeds amazingly well, not to mention a lot of fun.
