PocketJoey Pouch for the iPAQ Pocket PC
January 7, 2002
Securing your iPAQ in the case is quite simple— undo the velcro strap at the top, unzip the side of the case, insert your iPAQ, and then zip up the side and stretch the strap over the top. There are two velcro patches to which you can secure the strap, depending on whether or not you are using an expansion jacket. The strap is what prevents your handheld from falling out of the top of the case when you wear it around your neck. ANd I trust it completely—I put my iPAQ in the PocketJoey and I shook it quite a bit in order to try to get it to fall out, or even just loosen a little in the case. The iPAQ didn’t budge at all. And if you should ever not want to wear your iPAQ, a convenient swivel belt clip is also provided on the back. This ingenious system allows you to quickly insert and remove your iPAQ should the need arise. It probably won’t though, as there are passthroughs for synchronization, battery charging, the reset area, and the voice recording button. And the open top provides complete access to your IR port and your stylus.
The front of the case is made out of a high quality transparent plastic. Though it may be a bit harder to tap the screen than normal, the extra protection this cover provides makes it well worth the trouble. Since FABS specializes in sales and retail automation, it seems logical to design a case that will protect handheld devices in a variety of environments, while still keeping every single function accessible. And I think that they have succeeded in every way— I can’t think of any way to improve this case.
If you have any desire at all to wear your iPAQ around your neck, then you need a PocketJoey Pouch from FABS1. I’m just waiting for them to “come to their senses” and make one for the Palm m505. You can get one for yourself for $50 at the PocketJoey Pouch web site. It’s expensive, but I believe it’s well worth it. No other product on the market comes close to the innovative design of this case for the Compaq iPAQ, and it’s the only one I’ve seen that allows you to wear it around your neck with complete confidence that it won’t go crashing to the floor!
