Shooting Gallery

My favorite is Bang! Bang! and the premise is simple— shoot everything, whether it moves or not. Bottles, cans, birds, targets, and even cats (though you have the option of telling the program that shooting cats is wrong if you like). Just tap the screen to shoot, and while that may sound simple as the game progresses it gets harder and harder to keep up. I usually play on the medium difficulty and it’s quite a challenge. You are rewarded with extra ammunition when you get all the birds in a set, or when you shoot bottles and cans. The sound effects are a little cheesy, but they do make it easy to tell wen you hit and when you miss. And of course there’s a high score table so that you can share your high scores with others. Bang! Bang! is a fun, fast-paced game that is sure to become a Palm OS classic— and it’s almost worth the entire price of the package just by itself.
The next game in the package is Bzzz!, in which your goal is to keep a cute little frog well fed by helping him catch flies. Be careful and avoid the dragonflies, or your tongue will stick for a few seconds and you won’t be able to catch any yummy flies. You have to keep up, as your frog will perish if he goes too long without food. In each successive round, the flies get a bit more numerous, but also harder to catch. Watch that health meter at the top of the screen and catch those flies as fast as you can!
Galaxy Ranger is next on the list, and is very similar to Bang! Bang! though with an outer space theme. This one is also quite a bit more challenging, and as such makes an excellent sequel. The goal here is to rescue a damsel in distress by blasting all of the robots and UFOs that stand in the way of your accomplishing your noble task. It’s a lot of fun, but be careful- you might not get any work done after you install this one because you’re trying to hard to complete your mission!
The last game included in this package is Police Range. This game is designed as a training simulator for police officers in which you must first spend some time on the practice range improving your speed and accuracy before you head out to Crime Alley. In this part of the game the key is judgement— don’t shoot the little girl, the fellow officer, or the clergyman, but be sure to take out all of the bad guys before they’re able to shoot you. The scoring is based on both speed and accuracy, but there’s also a 100 point penalty if you do shoot an innocent bystander by mistake. Complete each round within the time allotted, and you’ll be promoted from Raw Recruit all the way up to Chief of the department. I’m warning you though, it isn’t easy— but it is a lot of fun.
Every single one of the games in this package is a real winner, and if you like playing games on your Palm OS handheld then you’re probably going to like them too. You can get Shooting Gallery from the Global Star Software web site for $19.99.
