Shanghai

What sets Shanghai apart is the attention to detail and the amazing graphics. You can choose from any number of layouts, or let the program randomly select one for each game. A high scores table lets you compete against yourself for the best times on each layout— my best so far is 53 seconds. The backgrounds are all superb, and they tie in nicely with the custom tile sets that you can choose from. There are several, including the standard Japanese set we’ve all played with for years, Prehistoric (with dinosaurs), Kid’s Room (where you have to match pictures and words in pairs), Egyptian, Outer Space, Fantasy, Animals (where you match the left and right halves of various creatures), Samurai (which is the easiest one of all to use due to the large, clear pictures), and Calculate (in which you have to solve simple equations to match the pairs).
I highly encourage you to check out this game. You can get a full 14-day demo at the Landware web site. It sells for $19.95, and I think it’s worth every penny. Just be careful and don’t install it to your handheld if you’re working on any urgent projects, or you just might miss your deadline!
