Barnes & Noble Announces NOOK Simple Touch with GlowLight

by PocketGoddess on April 12, 2012

I’ve been hearing rumors for a while that Amazon has been working on an e-ink device with a lighted screen, to solve the reading in bed problem, but Barnes & Noble has beaten Amazon to the punch, again.

Today the company announced the NOOK Simple Touch™ with GlowLight™. The ereader device is very similar to the existing Nook Simple Touch, which I reviewed quite positively for TabletPCReview last summer. The lighted screen has adjustable brightness for reading in bed, and when it’s turned off the display is still crisp and clear for reading in direct sunlight.

In addition to the new GlowLight you can turn on for reading in low light conditions, it’s also lighter weight than the original and has Best Text Technology for an even sharper e-ink reading experience. It also comes with a built-in anti-glare screen protector, a microSD expansion slot, USB cable, and power adapter.

The NOOK Simple Touch with GlowLight is currently available for preorder at $139 with a May 1 ship date and will also be available in stores in early May.
