New Mac App Store

by PocketGoddess on January 6, 2011

Apple’s new Mac App Store launched today, and if you’ve ever shopped the iTunes App Store it should look very familiar to you. You can browse for applications by category, see top paid and free apps, read app descriptions and user reviews, and of course make your purchase with a click and a password using your iTunes account.

As a brand new MacBook Air owner who is also new to the platform, this couldn’t be better timing for me. I’ve already found several apps that I’d like to try, and I appreciate the one-stop shopping convenience offered by the Mac App Store. Even better, all of my apps will automatically be updated for me in exactly the same way as my iOS apps are on my iPod Touch and iPad, so I’ll never have to wonder if my software is out of date.

Accessing the store is as simple as downloading the latest OS X update, version 10.6.6, using Software Update. The App Store icon will then appear on the Dock next to the Finder icon. More information is available on the Apple web site and the relevant Apple support page.
