Stowaway Saves the Day

by PocketGoddess on April 8, 2010

I’ve been around the mobile technology space for a long time now (my first published review was in April of 2000), and I never clean out my junk drawer.
Ordinarily I don’t like to flaunt (or even admit to) my messy ways, but this time I came out ahead. According to James Kendrick of JKOnTheRun, that old Stowaway Bluetooth keyboard I have, the one that has been languishing unused in the junk drawer for at least a couple of years now, will work perfectly with my shiny new 3G iPad when it’s delivered later this month.
So if you’re a Palm OS or Pocket PC handheld user from “back in the day” or if you happen to have another Bluetooth keyboard lying around somewhere, you should be in luck. That’s especially good news for folks who have already emptied their bank account (and maybe even rooted around a bit in the sofa cushions) in order to find the cash for their iPad purchase, because the official Apple accessories don’t come cheap.
Unfortunately the Stowaway keyboard has been discontinued. but there are currently a few available on eBay for reasonable prices. Good hunting!

Hi Jen,
The Stowaway foldable BT keyboard and the Stowaway BT mouse were a great combination, and just like you I still have these great accessories !!

I loved the “Sierra” model as a portable keyboard and used them a lot back in the day. Unfortunately, it looks like I’m on the hunt for a new/used one. All of my Stowaways (all five of them) were either for specific models, or the IR version. :(
